Do's and Dont's for Oily and Dry Skin

Dry Skin

Do's for Dry Skin
  • Cut back on bath and shower time. Take cooler or lukewarm showers instead of hot ones.
  • Pat yourself dry gently with a towel, rather than rubbing.
  • Pay special attention to lower legs, which tend to be dryer because they’re farther from your heart.
  • Protect your skin from the sun. Winter sun can be as dangerous as summer sun
  • Air your home, and turn down the heating. Use a humidifier, especially in the bedroom.
  • Apply a water-in-oil-type moisturizer and gently pat your skin dry.
  • Wear light clothes made of cotton.
  • Protect yourself from the wind by covering your face and using a natural oil based lip balm.
  • Try to avoid extreme cold, which can cause frostbite or skin disorders in some people.
  • Carefully choose a good moisturizer developed for dry skin.
  • Use heavier creams or ointments during the winter months and lighter lotions in the summer.

Dont's for Dry Skin
  • Don’t overdo the scrubbing.
  • Don't shower in very hot water.
  • Don't rub-dab skin dry.
  • Alcohol and caffeine should be avoided.
  • Don't overdo skin cleansing. Once a day is sufficient to wash your face, hands, feet and between the folds of your skin. You can rinse your trunk, arms and legs daily, but don't use cleanser or soap on these areas every day.
  • Don’t scratch dry, itchy spots; apply more moisturizer instead.

Oily Skin

Do's for Oily Skin

  • Try to have regular sleeping hours.
  • Supplement your diet with lots of fresh fruits, vegetables, sprouts, and fruit juice.
  • Do drink lots of water. It helps hydrate the skin from the inside.
  • In case of severe acne, consult the doctor.
  • Try to use fragrance free product. It can cause more oil production and acne.

Dont's for Oily Skin
  • Do not rub, squeeze or pick pustules.
  • Try to avoid beauty soaps or moisturizers. Use a medicated soap.
  • Avoid using oil-based creams, ointments and make-up products.
  • Avoid using cosmetics, which contain Vaseline.
  • Avoid use of fragrance rich product. It can cause more oil production and acne.
  • Do not use any facial cream or other products containing socetyl stearate, isopropyl isostearate, isopropyl palmitate, isopropyl myristate & sodium chloride. They can cause acne.
  • Don't get moisture crazy. If your skin is not "soaking up" the moisture you're giving it, then cut back on the amount or frequency of application.
